Simply breathtaking in its unique architecture and the views it offers, The Ark is one of the most distinctive luxury lodges you can choose to stay in. Inspired by the traditional tree houses or watch huts used by farmers to protect their crops from wild animals, Sri Lankan architect Narein Perera has created a fascinating three-storey, metal structure that offers spectacular views of lush green paddy fields in the valley below, the surrounding mountains, untouched wilderness that comprise the area – a 40 acre tea, rubber and cinnamon plantation. Coming up winding approach and witnessing the incredible structure rising above the treetops is a truly wonderful experience – and the expectation of the luxuries on offer even more so. The first floor consists of an open sided living and dining area with the three bedrooms located at levels below. The rooms are gracefully furnished with double beds and the attached bathrooms are complete with hot showers and little luxuries. Overhead fans and the tropical breeze from open windows offer natural ventilation. The open plan living/dining area and a pantry are at the entry level. Comfy sofas, flat screen TV, DVD player, a collection of movies, iPod dock, books and some board games offer relaxation. The dining room sits eight and the pantry is equipped with a fridge and tea/coffee facility. The most astounding however, is the infinity pool which hides amongst foliage and offers the most incredible views.
