Perfectly placed mid-way between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, Lavender House is an old planter’s bungalow dating back to the end of the 18th century, and one of the most charming luxury cottages in Sri Lanka. Hidden amidst lush tea plantations and set in beautifully landscaped seven acre garden, its grey granite bricks, sloping slate roof and stately chimneys offer rustic appeal, while indoors antique furniture, paintings and prints of the era sit perfectly against its original wooden ceilings and floor tiles. However, today’s luxury is found in the form of modern bathrooms, an infinity-edged swimming pool and a Bose sound system keeping harmony with old world traditions. Each of the five beautiful bedrooms offers an individual style and ambience with working fireplaces lit on cold nights to add not just warmth but authenticity – a private sit-out area is perfect for private meals or romantic dinners. The bathrooms too spare no luxury. The comfy living room is complete with library and fireplace and the striking red dining room its antique dining table, crystal chandelier and adjoining wine cellar takes one back to the days of the Raj. The entertainment room hosts a grand piano, satellite TV, and DVD player and if one needs more there is a Billiard Room as well; and workaholics will indeed be glad of the office room with computer, printer, fax, and internet facility too.
